Good Morning! I'm in Verona and you're not! Lucky you - depending of course on exactly where you are.... I went outside this morning to have my coffee, finish smoking a Dominican cigar (so my DH wouldn't know - he despises smoking) and do the crosswords in the paper before I pulled up most of my almost dead pumpkin plant. So I go to cut off the dead parts and maybe pull the whole damn thing up (it sort of took over where I had planted it - after I moved it out of the pot as seen on June 30th) and I find a PUMPKIN!!!!A friend of mine had taken a look at the plant and said it looked like I'd planted it too late and it wouldn't fruit. Heh, heh, heh. Shows you what a college education does to your plant education.....
It's not ripe yet - and the plant is, heh, heh, heh, still blooming!
The pictures are after I'd pruned back the plant - the green behind the pumpkin is violets - they look terrific when Spring comes - the whole bed turns bluish- purple. The rose "bush" - it's never really a bush as it grows up instead of out - apparently was a little appalled by the pumpkin plant's rapid spread and didn't bloom much this summer. Maybe next year - I know to give the pumpkin a lot of room if I plant seeds again....Or it may have just been plain old appalled - it's a Peace rose and times have not been good for peace....
