Candidate withdraws from race

Kathleen Pearlman has withdrawn her candidacy for the Verona Township Council, according to Township Manager Joseph Martin. Pearlman, a part-time circulation desk clerk at the Verona Public Library, said she was required to choose between her job and her candidacy. In a statement to the Times, she said there would be a conflict of interest stemming from her voting on the library budget, as part of the entire budget, while employed by the township. She said she would be unable to abstain from voting on the entire budget because it takes a consensus to pass it.
