Women's History Month



Amidst all the furor over Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D - NY) running for the presidency, we forget the first woman to run - Victoria Woodhull, in 1872. The Equal Rights Party nominated her, but it couldn't help her much against the insidious, hypocritical attacks of the opposition, which was, it seemed pretty nearly everybody. In one of those seemingly modern pieces of hypocrisy, one of the "religious right" of the day was involved in something he should not have been, but when Woodhull used it to smear him, as he had smeared her - with lies in his case - she wound up in jail. On Election Day, too.... The more things change...
