Women's History Month

Today's link for Women's History Month is from the above. The NAWSA Collection consists of 167 books, pamphlets and other artifacts documenting the suffrage campaign. Thank God for the women who got us the right to vote. I hope you all use it. I'm too tired for more information... Goodnight and courage....

Women's History Month

Amidst all the furor over Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D - NY) running for the presidency, we forget the first woman to run - Victoria Woodhull, in 1872. The Equal Rights Party nominated her, but it couldn't help her much against the insidious, hypocritical attacks of the opposition, which was, it seemed pretty nearly everybody. In one of those seemingly modern pieces of hypocrisy, one of the "religious right" of the day was involved in something he should not have been, but when Woodhull used it to smear him, as he had smeared her - with lies in his case - she wound up in jail. On Election Day, too.... The more things change...

Women's History Month

Today's link is a timeline of Women's History, this one from 1770-1799. The link is Ken Middleton's from the Middle Tennessee State University Library's site. His American Women's History: A Research Guide was named one of the Best Free Reference Web Sites in 2004 by the Machine-Assisted Reference Section (MARS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) of the ALA (American Library Association).
This timeline just covers the time when my great-great-great-great grandmother, Ester Durnil was born in the not-quite United States, married John T. Roberts and moved with him to Kentucky's Casey County, where they lived in 1810.
Another link from Middleton's site is Quilts, which does not refer specifically to women or history, but, as we all should know, women's crafting of fabric tells much in its own way.

Just one of those weeks....

It's been an interesting (feh) week. And since it's Women's History Month (I know, I get a slow start on these things), here's a sticker that I got that will start it off on the right foot - or the left foot, who knows?

<----This picture is from the site Girls Read Comics (and they're pissed). Needless to say, the woman in the picture would like the sticker to put on her computer , or her boss' face. I don't read Marvel comics, from which this was taken, so can't give any other facts other than what I read in the above mentioned link.
