Today my package finally came - it was ripped and "repackaged". I think the only thing missing was the keys to the banks. I had completely forgotten what was in it! Towels, linens, lingerie, coin banks, an old beaded purse, our wedding pictures in a Parents' Wedding Keepsake album, my grandpa's medal from WWI, a GAR belt buckle, and my baby shoes, newborn mittens, and a bed jacket that's so tiny! It was a treasure chest! There was a lot of stuff in my suitcase, too. One thing was a packet of stuff about my Grandpa Maddux- his Typographic Union card and a letter to Frank and Ann, telling them what to do when he died. His and Mildred's death certificates were in there, too, along with his Social Security and Medicare cards and his Oddfellows card (Grandpa Roberts was an Oddfellow, too). It was fascinating. I put the info from his death certificate in the family tree record for him.
I had a weird experience with the wi-fi here for a while. Anyway, I ordered two gift baskets to be sent to Stewart - one a thank you from the family and the other a 🎄Christmas thank you from me. They are both kosher. 😁 I hope he gets them before Christmas - they are both from Amazon. I got a $55 debit card from United Healthcare, so I used it.
I got an e-mail from Joan Dorfman. Her life is coming apart. She writes:
Hi Kathy,
I am sorry that I am late in writing you back. I have been trying to
straighten out some of my finances which are in a horrible state. I
found out by accident that my husband has been using one of my
accounts to pay his bills. It is a joint account from awhile ago but
all the money was from my paychecks. He never contributed to the
account. Another reason why he never wanted to go ahead with the
divorce I guess.
I had to quickly pay for some of my late bills before he used up all
the money that was left. He claimed the money wasn't mine and that he
didn't file for the divorce because it cost too much. I told him that
if he didn't file by Jan, that I would. His attorney is a friend and
would not be charging for his services. But I would have to pay for my
attorney.
I was behind in my mortgage, they were threatening to turn off my heat
and cancel my car insurance, I can't pay for new eyeglasses I need and
dental surgery. The list goes on and on. I even cancelled my tv cable
which means I can't watch anything because I have no reception. But to
be honest, I don't really even miss it that much. Though when I walked
into the door at night, I went straight for the remote!
When will you be coming home? Will you be staying in KY for Christmas?
How is your family?
They are now allowing patrons back into the library at Verona. But
there is no computer use and no tables they can sit at. I have been
trying to work as many weekends as possible there to get the extra
money. I even told Catherine I could work during the day during of
Christmas week (when I am on vacation from Bloomfield). I am not too
proud to beg at this point. But they had Ryan scheduled for the
holiday weekends and he was only too thrilled for me to take them.
I am trying to get new car insurance to lower my monthly payments. The
companies keep asking me, "Are you retired? Are you retiring soon, do
you know when?" I tell them "when I drop dead."
Let me know how you're doing. Here you are going through one of life's
most difficult moments, and I am complaining to you. Please forgive
me.
Love,
Joan
Jenni called and asked for $50 to get enough gas to move her stuff to Scottsburg, so she'll be near where she works - it's also owned by her landlord so that he can take her rent for that place from her check. I'm hoping that works out.
So today's been interesting, but not too bad, considering.
