Vaccine scheduling no problem in Essex
This is in response to the recent article “They got the 1st dose … what about the 2nd?” about scheduling issues at a staterun mega-site in Gloucester County: Kudos to our Essex County Executive Joe DiVincenzo for establishing a working COVID-19 vaccination system. Every city and town in the county — including mine, Verona — is assigned a designated site at which a person is to receive the vaccine. My wife registered both of us on essexcovid.org. Within a day or two, we received acknowledgment. A week later we received appointments for the first and second dose, with dates and times for both of them.
Brilliant, and we are and thankful!

To which I sent this reply:
A letter writer recently praised the
vaccination program in Essex County and said he received acknowledgement and an
appointment within a couple of weeks. I’d like to know who he knows in the
system, or what conditions he and his wife have that got them in so quickly.
I’ve registered 3 times, been “acknowledged”, but haven’t come close to getting
a vaccination date, either through the county, or my doctor’s office. The
county executive calls our house to tell us how good he’s doing every week or
so, and urges us to make appointments. We’ve gotten so we ignore them, because
they are of little or no use. My husband also saw someone yelling at the
cashier at Walgreens about getting the vaccine and not being able to get the
vaccine anywhere. Essex County isn’t doing any better than anywhere else, maybe
worse. But we do have an executive that likes to say we are doing better.

I registered again today - it says there are no openings for vaccination until after March 2. It only gives 3 dates for "appointments". Not what I'd call efficient.
