There's no partly about it - it's sunny!
We might go to the Meadowlands for the simulcast of the Derby - assuming Steve will get up in time. He figures we can go at the last minute.
Six horses were scratched including the favorite, Forte. Two, Skinner and Practical Move, had "an elevated temperature". Two had leg problems - one, Wild On Ice, suffered a fracture to his hind leg requiring him to be euthanized following a morning workout on April 27, the other was Forte - "an awkward step" following a Thursday morning gallop. One, Continuar, was scratched because his trainer thought he had not been able to reach the peak fitness required to take on a race as tough as the Kentucky Derby. And the last, Lord Miles, was pulled from the race on Thursday following the sudden death of two other horses trained by his trainer at Churchill Downs earlier in the week. The trainer, Saffie A. Joseph, Jr., has been suspended from entering horses in races or applying for stall occupancy at all Churchill Downs-owned racetracks.
There's a horse named Derma Sotogake - Japanese, but Kara says it's hard to say what the name means if it isn’t in kanji, since there are so many that sound like each other. There's also one that has the name of a friends of hers - Jace's Road. They are an anime artist on Instagram.
It sounds like it'll be an interesting race - and it's nice out, too!
We went and I bet Mage to show, and he won. I won S9.08. I also bet on three other horses, but none of them came in in the money. I put $2 on the Japanese horse, but it didn't pay off.
I got a Derby Mojito - they don't know how to make Juleps. I also got a bourbon on the rocks that I put on the mint left over from the mojito.
I was so drunk when we went to the Tick Tock Diner for supper.
It was a nice day out.
