Well, today is finally Derby Day. I don't know why I forgot yesterday... No packed stands. Some of the horses may run better without crowds. Tiz the Law is the favorite. Personally, I hope it doesn't come in, in the money, because of the name. Since it's a 2 year old, it gives me the creeps, knowing why it might be named that. I like Authentic - Spendthrift Farms is one of the owners, Bob Baffert is listed as trainer and John Velazquez is the jockey. Pretty good, since I looked him up and Wikipedia says this about him: On May 18th, 2019 at the Preakness Stakes Velazquez was thrown from the saddle off at the start of the race by Bodexpress, with the horse running without Velazquez for the duration of the race. Baffert and Spendthrift Farms are also part of Thousand Words. We'll see how things work out. Jerry Izenberg did his usual disparaging column about Louisville and the infield. But it had a little less sting this year. There was a good one by a reporter from the Washington Post named Neil Greenberg called Kentucky Derby Preview that I liked. I saw the berg part of Greenberg's name and thought it was another column by Izenberg. He can't seem to write about horse racing without bad mouthing the track's home.
