This morning, the phone rang at 5 AM. I jump up after letting it ring, listen for the message, or possible lack thereof, holding my breath that I don't hear sobbing... I get silence, so I go back to bed. The phone rings again an hour later. I got through the same routine, again, dead silence. So I got back to bed and just as I'm getting to sleep, the phone rings again!  I ignore it. Again, I'm almost asleep and it rings, then stops, then rings again. By this time it's around 8, so I get up, answer the phone and get dead silence. I go back to bed. I catch a little nap, then it rings another couple of times, so I get up, get dressed and go downstairs. The phone rings, so I pick it up and shout, "You've been calling since 5 o'clock!!! Don't call again!" I look at the answering machine. There's one message. It starts " Your Home Depot validation number is..." and I cut it off. get my breakfast, sit down to read the paper. The phone rings. I ignore it - no message. Finally, Steve gets up and I look at him and say, "No, it isn't her", meaning Jenni of course. She called last night and told me about some job she'd been offered that sounded too good to be true. I told her it sounded like a scam, somebody trying to steal her identity. Then she and I went through what would happen if they tried.  She has no bank account, no money to spare, no credit, has fingerprints in the law enforcement record, has an arrest record, and is a bad risk. "No upside for them," she said. We were laughing so hard. Anyway, it was a long morning. We got one more call with a Home Depot validation number. I hope the S.O.B. who's trying to set up an account with our phone number gets caught. They stopped the phone calls around noon, and we only got one around 1:30 PM. I guess they gave up.
