I got up and put Woodgie's medicine in her wet food, took my medicine and went back to bed. Of course, Woodgie won't eat her wet food. No movies today. We'd planned on going to the movies, but I felt like crap.
I lay in bed, trying to remember all the places that have moved out of Verona. The plumbing supply place on Bloomfield neat Miele's (which is still there, I think), Celentano's, Mardi Gras, White Castle, Kresges, Mandees, the Hallmark store, the bowling alley, the movie theater, Terry's, Grove Drugs, the trophy making place (it was in the bowling alley, if I remember correctly), Anna Capri, A&P, Dino's Barber Shop, Verona Inn - relocated, the tavern on the corner of Bloomfield and Claremont, the photographer who had his shop and built a little garden by it, Pine Florist, the Stationery store, Annin Flag factory, the optician that was on the corner of Montrose and Bloomfield, the Sporting goods store that was at the corner of Bloomfield and Lakeside (Pleasant Valley), the print shop where we had Elysha's birth announcements done, the bakery in front of the Catholic Church, the Jehovah's Witness "church", the United Methodist Church (it's still a UMC - now Ghana Calvary Methodist Church), the Italian restaurant by Bagelwich (still there!), Dutch Maid Dry Cleaners, the Aluminum place by Henry's, Gold's Gym, and probably others that I've forgotten, but have changed hands at least once. A few have remained - Mieles, Bagelwich, Cirasella's Jewlers, Twin Method (although they are smaller), Lakeside Deli, Friedman Opticians, Clinton Glass and Mirror, Jack's Cafe, Vintage Alley, Prout Funeral Home, Essex Testing, Hillcrest Farms, Bunky's Auto Shop (they used to have gas pumps, too), NJ Kitchen and Baths, Verona Liquor (although now it's Wine Cellars), Marsh Animal and Verona Animal Hospitals, Allergy Consultants, the Mane Place, the Lit Shop (tobacco), Ray's Pizza, the Tuxedo shop, Pilgrim Diner, the Psychic, and Kings.
The banks are still here, but a lot have been added. Same with pizza places. They switch owners but stay pizzerias. Anna Capri's had gone through two or three, but I think they are closed out now - nothing has moved in.
This town has changed. They have rebuilt the schools and the library and added a fire station and community center (although that was a long time ago). Our doctor's office - Dr. Cirello - went from down on the corner to up on Bloomfield Avenue as Town Medical - where he got Dr. Murray as an associate - to Grove Street where it expanded to a lot of doctors and became part of Vanguard Medical. Damn.
I wrote a lot about nothing really, didn't I?
